How to act?

In case of health problems, first contact your family physician, who will advise and ensure the necessary examinations and treatment and, if necessary, refer you to a medical specialist. An increased need for more frequent doctor appointments and medication than usual is not a basis for determining the severity of the disability. You can apply to the local government of your place of residence to receive subsistence benefits.

According to the list of technical aids, the state discount for the purchase of technical aids for persons of retirement age is available even without the severity of the disability being determined.

If you are unable to cope with daily activities on your own, you should first contact a local government social worker, who will assess the need for help and recommend and offer the necessary support services (for example, a personal assistant, social transport, etc.). In addition, the local government organizes the financing of support services if necessary.

If all of the above has not yielded the desired results, and due to your health condition, you have long-term limitations on being able to cope with basic daily activities independently, you can contact the Social Insurance Board to determine the severity of your disability.

Expert analysis is document-based. Based on the submitted application, the health data described by the attending physicians, and additionally attached documents, the expert physician decides what degree of disability is detected. When making a disability decision, we take into account the state of health and the forecast of its change, assess the ability to cope with basic daily activities, and the need for additional assistance and guidance, which occur and persist despite the use of technical aids or medications.

The decision to identify the severity of the disability is for a fixed term: 6 months to 5 years. If a person of retirement age has an unchanging or progressive permanent condition that cannot be compensated by treatment, technical aids, or services, the severity of the disability can be determined for life.
Persons receiving a pension under special, preliminary, or preferential conditions are not considered to be of retirement age.
